International Trade regarding United States Democracy
There is nothing new that China plays a huge role with the United States when it comes to World Trade. There is still struggle when it comes to the relationship between China and the United States. My mother and I attended an event titled,“Will Trade decide the next election?” which is located in Washington DC. The event lasted for an hour but there was lunch served from eleven thirty to twelve noon. My mother and I did not attend the lunch but I was able to attend an information session. The event took place at the George Washington University and the event was hosted by the company Fiscal Note. The presidential election will not take place until the year 2020, and I thought this would be a great event to attend dealing with the United States and our world trade policy.
In class, we have learned about topics such as polarization, democracy, and etc. I want to explain how world trade issues can cause problems in the democracy of the United States. From lecture, democracy is considered to be the best form of government because citizens and the government our involved in making decisions for our country. According to the United States Economy Outlook website, the US Growth Domestic Product will remain between two and three percent. Since the United States’s economy is good, that is what makes us democratic. From the media, I have learned that the United States has been having problems when it comes to trade with China.
China and the United States cannot seem to come to an agreement when it comes to trade. Statistics show that China has had a surplus of 421.44 billion dollars, which decreased in two years in a row. There was a decrease of 594 billion United States dollars in the year 2015 to 510 billion dollars in the previous year. As we know the exports we receive from China are soybeans, motor vehicles and microchips. The trade between the US and China helps to support 2.6 million jobs for American citizens. This seems that China is a beneficiary to the United States but unfortunately there are still issues with the trade relationship.
The issues include intellectual property theft, exchange rates, market access, and government subsidies. There was a hundred day trade plan that was established by the Trump administration, to try and work out the issues. The issues are still in affect. The US is still experiencing frustration among China regarding tariffs on our goods. If we still continue to experience issues and conflict with China about trade, then our democracy could be affected in a negative impact. As we know, China and the United States contain large economies and I think it is strange how it is so much conflict among each other.
The United States democracy is going to be in jeopardy because of the trade conflicts with China. Americans could possibly lose jobs and that can cause the unemployment rates to skyrocket. Failure to the United States is not an option regarding trade. The world trade issues are not only going to cause our democracy to be in shambles, it is turning the President to become polarized to do whatever is necessary to keep our economy high. China is a major source when it comes to trade and obviously, the United States cannot afford to lose this relationship. The country China is the main country that makes our products and if we lose them as a trade source then our country would not operate.
It would make us look as if we cannot establish and maintain good relationships when it comes to international trade. International trade is one of the major sources that helps to keep our country to function every day.Democracy is the United States and we are no other form of government whatsoever. The United States in my opinion seems to be afraid of the country China and what they might do to us. As stated before, China is a major source to our country but they are running are democracy by trying to make their products cheaper. In my opinion, I do not think that is fair to us as Americans because we are paying China for the products that are being made for our country.
In my opinion, I think that is cheating the United States out of what we deserve. It is not right for a country to manipulate another country regarding trade. If the issues do not get solved, I think over time the United States would end up either going to war or will not have a solid relationship anymore.
No country is perfect whatsoever, and this is not the first time that we have had issues with China. In the past, we still manage to have a relationship with China despite the issues that went on. Our society is trying to find out since election is next year, will our international trade policy change if a new president is elected. My view is the election will have an effect on our democracy and it will give us a view on how our trade relationship will continue to go.
China also needs the United States because we are a big portion of China’s economy. Without the United States, that will also affect China’s economy as well. Both countries China and the United States are like a marriage and they need each other because this will both affect the democracies of both countries.
This article really got me curious on what kind of connection the trade and democracy could have. At first, it seems to me that there could be no connection at all however, as I try to reflect after reading this article, few ideas come to mind.
Sometimes, there are leaders who try to create damage on things to make an issue even though these things seems to be running okay. When does this trade war started anyway? It all started when Trump criticized China for not “playing clean in the game” when he said that he would want to put tariffs to its trade partners to minimize the country’s trade deficit.
I agree that as per this article, the United States must not lose a relationship with China especially when most of the raw materials in supplying their industry is coming from them. There could be a lesser harmful way of negotiation that will not affect the US Economy and eventually continue the running industries in the United States.
I think this is also a move of the Trump government in order to tap the working class and promote himself as a caring President who is deeply concerned about the American working class people, someone whom they can trust and can rely on if there are big countries like China try to bully them. Something that is quite admirable for a leader.
However, Could this also be an electoral tactic for the upcoming elections on 2020?
Moreover, I think this trade war is beyond what the naked eye can see. This could also be a fight between two countries who is trying to become an influential, hegemonic, in the international community. Hard to say, it is now something the United States is lacking due to Trump rhetoric towards China. If the Trump Administration was able to get a more subtle and convincing negotiation with China, this could go on well and eventually save things that could be in jeopardy such employment.
In this writing “Will International Trade Affect the United States Democracy?” they show the relationships between trade and democracy. The author focuses on the democracy of the United States and trade with China. China and the US are currently struggling to agree in regards to trading policies. Losing China as a trading partner will affect many people’s jobs in the US and will increase the unemployment rate in the US, which could result in a recession to occur. The author states that since the economy in the US is right, that is what makes the US democratic. This blog gives us evidence that China is an essential factor for democracy in the US to keep thriving. The article states that China’s exports are supporting many jobs. This prevents the unemployment low, which is beneficial for democracy since the President will do anything to get the unemployment rate higher, and that could harm the democracy in the US. I agree with the author of this blog and think that the democracy of the US depends on the economy, and if they do not come up with a trade agreement that will work for both parties, people’s rights could be taken and cause democracy to be hurt.
